Jason Atherton is to open Harrods Social this month as the department store looks to celebrate the best of British chef talent.
The Michelin-starred chef joins his former colleague Gordon Ramsay in working with Harrods, after the launch of Gordon Ramsay Burger at the end of last year, with the Knightsbridge store saying there were “more exciting faces to come”.
Harrods Social by Jason Atherton will offer British cuisine with dishes including Wye Valley asparagus salad, Cumbrian cob chicken with black truffle, roasted Cumbrian lamb and shepherd’s pie, and Heritage breed fillet of beef.
The 114-cover restaurant will aim to showcase the best British produce and suppliers in a relaxed dining room featuring marble cornerstones, illuminated brass signage and textured leather upholstery.
Atherton said that he had crafted a menu that complements the shopping experience at Harrods.
He added: “Harrods is the most iconic department store in the world. Its famous Food Halls stock an incredible array of the very best produce from the British Isles, alongside one of the greatest wine shops in the world, the finest coffee, and of course, the brilliant Dining Hall. We have shopped here for many years as a family, and to work alongside the amazing team at Harrods is so special.”
Harrods' head of restaurants Ashley Saxton for said that the opening of the restaurants on 17 May would coincide with extended hours in the dining hall.
He said: “After a tough year for the British restaurant industry, Harrods is proud to be standing alongside some of the brightest and best in our national culinary scene, and we are delighted to be welcoming a chef of Jason’s calibre to Harrods. Following the launch of Gordon Ramsay Burger, now Jason Atherton, and with more exciting faces to come, this is the next stage in our vision to bring iconic British chefs to this iconic British destination.”
