Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall under fire for local beef snub

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has come under fire from farmers for snubbing beef suppliers local to his Cornwall restaurant.

Fifteen Cornwall has put Longhorn steaks on the menu rather than South Devon cattle, which are native to Cornwall.

But no suppliers in the region are large enough to supply the rare breed steaks, so instead they are being sourced from a farm in Gloucestershire that is 200 miles away.

Local farmers and beef suppliers insist that South Devon beef was as good as any other and Fifteen should remain loyal to the county.

Peter Cowling, who has a herd that grazes on the cliff tops close to the restaurant, told the Cornish Guardian that he'd happily walk his cows to the front door if the quality of the animals was in doubt.

He said: "When there's a quality product right on the cliffs above your restaurant, why go miles away to source it?"
