Investigation launched after restaurant set ablaze in ‘wilful’ fire

A restaurant in Lanarkshire has been seriously damaged by fire in a “wilful” attack that is being investigated by police.

 

The incident took place at Italian restaurant Da Luciano in Bothwell.

 

A Police Scotland spokesperson told The Caterer: “Around 12.35am on Tuesday, 18 July, 2023, we were called to a report of a fire at a premises on Silverwells Crescent in Bothwell.

 

"There were no reports of any injuries, and the blaze was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

 

They added: “The fire is being treated as wilful and a joint investigation is being carried out to establish the full circumstances.

 

“A 51-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with obstruction. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
