Institute of Hospitality introduces accessibility training films

Three training films have been produced by the Institute of Hospitality to highlight the benefits of improving service for disabled guests.

The films are designed to point out the steps operators can take to ensure that they are welcoming to all guest, without making expensive alterations to their business.

Hosted by permanent wheelchair user Arnold Fewell, managing director of AVF Marketing, the films have been endorsed by VisitEngland and can be used as part of staff training in providing an accessible welcome.

Ross Calladine, head of business support at VisitEngland, said: "These excellent short films will help tourism businesses harness the high value accessible tourism market. They contain useful insights and top tips for hotel staff."

Fewell added that the films explain good customer care. "For a disabled person small details can make the difference between a reasonable stay and a great stay," he said.

Institute of Hospitality chief executive Peter Ducker said: "Research shows that many of us are afraid of causing offence or not knowing what to do when interacting with a disabled person. These films provide staff with essential but often overlooked knowledge and will give them the confidence to deliver a truly high standard of service to disabled guests."
