Soho House buys Hush Mayfair for a 'substantial premium'

The lease for Hush Mayfair has been sold to Soho House for a “substantial premium”, 24 years after the private members' club first opened.

Jamie Barber (pictured above left), founder of the Hush Collection, announced the news on LinkedIn, stating the sale had been in the works for “almost four years”.

Barber, a former entertainment lawyer, opened Hush Mayfair in 1999 with Sir Roger Moore and his son Geoffrey in what was then a disused taxi depot.

Over the years, Hush Mayfair has welcomed Victoria Beckham, Bill Clinton, and Giorgio Armani, who Barber said got “lost in the basement”.

Barber said: “I have been a Soho House member since before I opened Hush in 1999 and I’m a strong supporter of the group and its team. I understand that Soho House will be opening a pretty exclusive club on our Hush site late next year which sounds like it will be invite only for certain members and that’s exciting to hear.

“Nick Jones and I started talking about this partnership before Covid and I'm delighted that, in their words, ‘we finally got married after a very long engagement.’”

Barber added the Hush Collection, which also features restaurants including Cabana, Haché and Little Planted Kitchen, is now free of bank debt and has a “significant war chest with which Edward Standring [CEO of Hush Collection] and I can consider options and opportunities”.

Soho House was founded by Jones in London in 1995 and now runs a portfolio of over 50 members' clubs, co-working spaces and hotels worldwide.

It runs 13 UK locations in London, Brighton, Somerset, Oxfordshire and Windsor with openings planned in Glasgow and Manchester next year.

The exact value of the deal has not been disclosed.
