Hull's 1884 Dock Street Kitchen closes

Hull restaurant 1884 Dock Street Kitchen has closed after six years in business.

The restaurant, which opened in 2012 and features in the Michelin Guide, occupies a former ropery by the marina in the city.

However its director James Birch said it was time for a rethink after the number of food and drink outlets which have opened in the area hit double figures.

The restaurant's sister site 1884 Wine & Tapas bar remains open as usual and is not affected by the closure.

In a statement, the restaurant which is operated by Headstart Retail, said: "After six wonderful years, we're sad to confirm the closure of 1884 Dock Street Kitchen with immediate effect.

"Many thanks to all our customers, suppliers and staff who have supported us since day one."

The business promised details of "exciting new ventures". Headstart Retail is expected to open a new restaurant, Cucina 1884, in Hessle later this year.
