Hoteliers warned of TV licence crackdown

Hotel operators have been warned that authorities will be cracking down on properties without TV licences over the half-term break.

TV Licensing enquiry officers will be visiting homes and businesses, including hotels, next week and those found without the correct licences will be at risk of £1,000 fines.

The fee for hotels and other guest accommodation is based on the number of units of overnight accommodation available to let and is calculated at £142.50 for the first 15 rooms with a television and a further £142.50 for each subsequent set of five rooms where a TV is installed.

Bob Cotton, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, said: "We always urge our members to stay within the law and avoid letting their guests down. If you provide televisions for guests or staff, you must be covered by a valid TV Licence.

"If you're uncertain of the rules, you can brush up online in minutes and then you'll have the peace of mind of knowing that you're covered for the summer."

If you have any questions, call The TV Licensing hotels team on 0844 800 5820 or find out more at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/hotels
