Hotel openings to watch in 2020

Cameron House

  • Location Loch Lomond, West Dunbartonshire
  • Reopening Late 2020
  • Owner KSL Capital Partners
  • **Design **3DReid

After being extensively damaged in a fire that killed two people in December 2017, Cameron House is expected to reopen following a rebuild towards the end of 2020. The ‘sensitive’ renovation by conservation architects Simpson & Brown and lead designers 3DReid is expected to add a further four bedrooms to the hotel. The facade has been retained and restored, although severe damage to the internal structure meant much of the interior had to be demolished. The Carrick Resort, which houses the clubhouse and spa and was undamaged, has already revealed a £2m upgrade, and the treatment rooms and spa facilities are also being upgraded.

Buxton Crescent hotel and thermal spa

  • Location Buxton, Derbyshire
  • Opening Spring
  • Bedrooms 80
  • Owner Trevor Osborne Property Group and CP Holdings
  • Operator Ensana
  • General manager Jonathan Dawson

The Grade I-listed Crescent in Buxton is finally expected to open as a luxury hotel and spa, after plans were originally announced 15 years ago. It will be the first Ensana Health Spa hotel in the UK and will feature a thermal spa with café and rooftop pool, restaurant, bar, six retail outlets and a function space, including the renovated Assembly Rooms. The thermal spa will have three pools, a salt cave and three saunas. The Crescent was designed by John Carr and constructed in the 1780s, and was the centrepiece of the fifth Duke of Devonshire’s plans to establish a fashionable Georgian spa town in Buxton.

Pan Pacific London

The UK’s first Pan Pacific hotel is opening at One Bishopsgate Plaza, a 43-storey residential and hospitality development including 237 bedrooms and 160 luxury residences. It will feature a fourth-floor swimming pool, spa and fitness centre, as well as a meeting and events space, including a double-height ballroom, the Square Mile’s first dedicated ballroom, which will be able to host a banquet for up to 370 guests. Heron International originally planned a third London Four Seasons hotel for the development, but Heron sold the site to the UOL Group in 2014 for a reported £97m and the plans were shelved.

Food and beverage outlets will include a tea lounge, restaurant and a Champagne bar, as well as an all-day dining venue; the property will also have 16 meeting rooms and an 800 sq m pillar-free ballroom for 700 covers.
