York's 100-bedroom Hotel 53 has been acquired by property firm Axcel Group off a guide price of £13m, as the former owners are looking to retire.
Previously independently operated, the hotel also has an on-site restaurant and cocktail bar, as well as a selection of business spaces and conference suites.
Axcel Group has four other hotels in its portfolio, including the Edinburgh Torphichen Street, the AC Marriott Manchester Cable Street, the Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket hotel, and the Hampton by Hilton London Croydon.
Alistair Greenhalgh, hotels director at property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton, which marketed and sold the property, said: "Hotel 53 was sold off-market on behalf of private clients, illustrating the current appetite for prime city centre hotels. We wish our client a happy retirement and the new owners, Axcel Group, every success in their future plans for the hotel."
