Hiraeth restaurant relocates to Court Colman Manor hotel

Independent pub and restaurant Hiraeth has found a new home in Bridgend’s Court Colman Manor hotel.

The concept, run by chefs Lewis Dwyer and Andy Aston, has taken over the stately manor hotel’s 50-cover restaurant. The dining room was refurbished in advance of its arrival, creating a modern space using natural materials.

Many of the fixtures and fittings were sourced locally, with tables made using cuttings from a felled oak tree in Welsh former rugby union player Neil Jenkins’ garden.

Hiraeth’s relocation comes after the landlord of its original site chose to put the 400-year-old building near Cowbridge up for sale. It opened in November 2022 after a successful £30,000 crowdfunding campaign.

Only eight months after the launch, the restaurant was added to the Michelin Guide Great Britian & Ireland last year.

The final service at Cowbridge was on new year’s eve and the restaurant reopened in Bridgend on 14 February.

There are plans to use the gardens at Court Colman Manor to grow seasonal produce for the restaurant.

Aston said: “We’re so excited to welcome our first guests – it’s taken a Herculean effort from the team to get us here.

"We still have some finishing touches to make over the coming weeks, to really make the space our own, but as far as the kitchen goes we’re ready and raring to go.

"We hope that everyone who loved what we did in the pub will pay us a visit and love what we are doing here just as much – if not more!”
