Highland Coast Hotels has appointed its first managing director in a bid to drive growth for the group along one of Scotland’s key Highland touring routes.

Kenny McMillan joins the business with almost 40 years’ worth of experience in tourism and hospitality.

He has previously held several head chef roles within Macdonald Hotels before being appointed group executive chef.

Glaswegian-born McMillan was also managing director at Macdonald Aviemore Resorts and general manager at Macdonald Drumossie Hotel.

The appointment comes as the region gears up to mark the tenth anniversary of one of its key touring routes, known as the North Coast 500 (NC500).

The NC500 is home to the group’s seven properties, including Lochardil House in Inverness, Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch, and Royal Marine Hotel in Brora.

Commenting on his appointment, McMillan said he is “really excited” to be joining the group which is “dedicated to delivering world-class guest itinerary experiences along the NC500.”

He added the tenth anniversary “presents an ideal opportunity” for the group to drive growth, help boost the local visitor economy, and provide year-round employment.

“I’m also keen to continue building the brand as a sustainable business in the Highlands for all stakeholders involved. Continuing to build our relationship with our local communities and adding value to community life is a vital part of that process.”

Highland Coast Hotels’ chief executive Guy Crawford will step back from his current role and focus as a non-executive board director.

Crawford said: “We’re delighted to welcome Kenny as our first managing director at Highland Coast Hotels. He is a well-respected and experienced industry leader, who knows the North Highland tourism and hospitality sector and help us build on the strong growth in revenue over these last years.”
