Planning permission has been granted to transform the Grade I-listed Hawkstone Hall in Shrewsbury, Shropshire into a 40-bedroom hotel and wedding venue.
The three-storey Georgian house has lain vacant since 2015, having been built as the 18th century home of the Hill family. From 1973 to 2015 it operated as an international pastoral and retreat centre with associated conference facilities and residential accommodation.
The property was sold to Martin Hirst and Hannah Petrouis of WH Hospitality earlier this year off an asking price of £3m. Hirst and Petrouis are only the fourth owners of the venue in its 550-year history, following the Hill family, Liberal politician George Whitely and the Roman Catholic Redemptorist Order.
The company also owns Weston Hall in Staffordshire, a luxury event and wedding venue with a restaurant and eight bedrooms.
