Greggs, PizzaExpress and KFC latest to close, including takeaway

Greggs, PizzaExpress and KFC are the latest brands to close their stores, including takeaway services, due to coronavirus.

Greggs closes all of its shops from today. A statement from the group said: “We’ve been doing everything we can to keep our shops open and everyone safe, but it has become clear that to help us all maintain social distance we need to go further and close all of our shops completely.”

The group said it would continue supporting staff with full contract hours for as long as possible and that it would distribute any unsold food.

PizzaExpress has closed, including its Deliveroo, click and collect and takeaway services. The group said it no longer “remains in the best interests of our customers and teams to continue to operate in this way”.

Dim T and Wildwood operator Tasty has also decided to cease offering all takeaway and delivery services across its restaurants, “with the welfare of its employees, customers and the wider community in mind”.

Directors said this morning that the company still has sufficient financial resources for the foreseeable future.

Other businesses that have decided to stop takeaway and delivery services include Barburrito, Tredwells, Dishoom and Paul.

McDonald’s and Nando’s shuttered their stores yesterday. The prime minister announced on Friday that all restaurants, pubs, bars and cafés should close, and although further closures, including hotels were announced last night, takeaway and delivery services are still able to remain operational.
