Green light for £33m Birmingham Nyx

Fattal Hotel Group has got the green light for the first new build Nyx in the UK, which will see the development of the £33m hotel in Birmingham.

Replacing a car park at 245 Broad Street owned and operated by Jurys Inn, the city council has granted planning permission for a 261-bedroom hotel fronting onto Berkley Street which will have a gym, restaurant, bar and terrace. The group already operates a Jurys Inn hotel nearby.

The lifestyle hotel will be a continuation of the partnership between Israeli-based group Fattal Hotels and Swedish hotel investment company Pandox, which together own and operate the 36-strong Jurys Inn portfolio.

The 201-bedroom Grange Holborn in London (currently operating as a Jurys Inn) is due to be refurbished and rebranded as the first Nyx in the UK following Queensgate Investments' acquisition of the freehold of four Grange Hotels for £1b earlier this year, with Fattal acquiring the long-term lease on the properties.

As part of a £32m investment by Fattal into the redevelopment and expansion of Edinburgh's Jurys Inn hotel, a listed building on adjacent land will also be converted into a 131-bedroom Nyx. The first Nyx opened in Milan in 2017; there are now seven hotels operating under the lifestyle brand.

Fattal operates over 200 hotels in 17 countries; with Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland operating 37 hotels under the Jurys Inn brand and 15 hotels under the Leonardo brand. 47 of these hotels are in the UK, four are in Ireland and one in Prague. Pandox owns 144 hotels in 15 countries, including 21 properties in the UK.
