Five years after a hotel was originally expected to welcome guests at the site, it has been revealed London's 61-67 Great Eastern Street will open as Hart Shoreditch, part of Hilton’s Curio Collection.
The 126-bedroom hotel will open next month following the launch in December of the Barboun Eastern Mediterranean grill, overseen by chef Hus Vedat and the team behind Yosma and Hovarda restaurants in Soho. The venue will also feature a bar called Tavla, a 24-hour fitness centre, three meeting spaces, and a nightclub concept, which will open after the hotel.
Designed in collaboration with Fabled Studio, Hart Shoreditch takes its name and design inspiration from one of the building’s previous occupants, the Harts, who were cabinetmakers in the 1800s.
General manager Lina Zakzeckyte joined the property earlier this year from her role as hotel manager of the nearby Ace hotel.
She said: “The hotel itself really is one-of-a-kind, with a design that acts as a celebration of the local area and its rich heritage; so we hope that our appreciation of great craftsmanship shows through. We’re thrilled to be able to bring something new to the area, offering guests a place to stay that is unique and design-led yet laid back and comfortable.”
Opening rates at Hart Shoreditch will start from £165 per night (including breakfast) for a queen guestroom.
The property was originally expected to open in 2015 as a 125-bedroom hotel under the Park Regis brand after gaining planning permission in May 2012 under ownership of Seven Capital. The site had lain derelict for more than a decade with several previous plans by developers rejected.
Jumeirah then revealed plans to launch the property as its first Zabeel House-branded hotel in the UK with 200 bedrooms. However, the company announced last year that it had abandoned the plans in order to focus on developing the brand in the Middle East first. The property is now under the ownership of Shamal Overseas Shoreditch.
Hilton operates three other hotels in London under its Curio Collection soft brand: the Trafalgar St James, the Lincoln Plaza and 100 Queen’s Gate. It is also due to open the 162-bedroom Fellows House hotel in Cambridge later this year.
