Great British Menu kicks off on Wednesday in new prime time slot

The new series of BBC Two's Great British Menu will kick off on Wednesday as chefs from London and the south east become the first to step up to the stove.

The round will see judge Angela Hartnett rate the efforts of Ben Marks of Perilla, London; Luke Selby of Hide, London and Paul Walsh of City Social, London as they look to celebrate 50 years of British pop music through creative cookery.

The show has moved to a prime-time 8-9pm slot twice a week followed by a 30-minute final, on Fridays. The starter and fish course will be shown on a Wednesday followed by the main course and dessert on a Thursday.

This Friday will see returning judges Matthew Fort, Oliver Peyton and Andi Oliver joined by guest judge bassist, Gary "Mani" Mounfield, from the Stone Roses and Primal Scream.

The series theme recognises the 50th anniversary of the last time The Beatles played live as a group, with the final banquet to be held at Abbey Road Studios.
