Great British Bake-Off's Flora Shedden to open Aran Bakery

Flora Shedden, who was the youngest semi-finalist on BBC One's Great British Bake-Off in 2015, is due to open Aran Bakery in Dunkeld, Highland Perthshire later this year.

The artisan bakery, named after the Scottish Gaelic word for bread or loaf, will be based at No. 2 Atholl Street, a 200-year-old building that is currently being transformed from its derelict state.

A crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to restore the site earlier this year successfully raised £10,890 with 234 supporters, outstripping its £8,000 target.

The bakery will supply wholesale produce including breads, cakes and preserves, and the bakery itself will feature an open plan kitchen, where customers will be able to watch chefs as they wait for their purchases or coffees.

The venue will also offer artisan baking classes to the public as well as hosting seasonal supper clubs and taster evenings.

All ingredients will be sourced as locally as possible and support small, not-for-profit initiatives. Wholemeal flour will come from Aberfeldy Mill, eggs from a local farm, organic vegetables from community initiative the Field less than a mile away, and fruits from Dunkeld & Birnam Community Orchard.
