Grantley Hall to join Relais & Châteaux

Grantley Hall hotel, the new luxury hotel and wellness retreat in North Yorkshire set to open in spring 2019, is to join sales and marketing consortium Relais & Châteaux.

Located near Fountains Abbey on a private island with a lake and listed Japanese garden, the historic Grade II*-listed property is currently undergoing a multimillion-pound restoration and extension.

The Yorkshire-based Sykes family, owners of the building, and general manager Andrew McPherson, previously general manager of Lucknam Park in Colerne, Wiltshire, are overseeing the development of the 47-bedroom hotel.

Valeria Sykes said: "Relais & Châteaux is the perfect association for Grantley Hall as the key pillars are reflected in every detail of our offering, from the elegant public spaces, guest rooms and gardens, to the extensive facilities and imaginative programming.

"We are very much looking forward to welcoming guests in late spring, and sharing the experience with them."

Philippe Gombert, international president of Relais & Châteaux, added: "Whether chef, hotelier or restaurateur, every Relais & Châteaux member must be motivated by a passion for his or her craft. Each must share strong values and possess a human identity that is fully committed and driven by the desire to bring local cultures to life."

Grantley Hall will feature seven drinking and dining venues including a fine-dining restaurant, pan-Asian restaurant and Champagne and cocktail bar, as well as a wedding and banqueting suite, several private events spaces and a spa. An academy will provide an on-site learning and development for hotel staff.

The property was built by Thomas Norton and his son Fletcher Norton, first Baron Grantley, in the 17th century, based on a Palladian design by English architect Isaac Ware. It was sold in 2015 off a guide price of £6m to the Sykes family.

Created in 1954, Relais & Châteaux is a consortium of more than 550 independent hotels and restaurants across the world, 31 of which are in the UK.
