New boutique aparthotel brand the Gate is set to open in London’s Aldgate later this month in a new build property being developed by the Reef Group.
The 189-bedroom property will feature a Maple & Co café on the ground floor, a gym with Peloton bikes (which are also available to request for apartments), and a fifth-floor members’ lounge with space for dining, working and an outdoor terrace. By night the space becomes a bar with a wine vending machine and beer wall.
An events programme includes outdoor yoga classes, BBQs and wine masterclasses. Maddox Gallery has curated the artwork around the hotel, including a Banksy in the lobby.
There are nine room categories, including one- and two-bed apartments and interconnecting family rooms, each with a fitted kitchen and living area. Introductory rates start from £100 including VAT for the studio apartments and check-in is self-service.
Aga Rosinska, general manager at the Gate who previously worked for aparthotel operator BridgeStreet, said: “The idea for the Gate aparthotel was born out of traditional gate and guesthouses, where people would socialise in communal spaces then retreat to their private rooms. The gatehouses would often be right on the edge of a city, so guests could use the property as a base to explore the surrounding neighbourhoods easily. We wanted to recreate this offering and atmosphere for a modern audience.
“It’s really exciting to be launching our first aparthotel, introducing a new kind of hospitality experience to the London market and Gateway to the City - we cannot wait to see how our guests use the space.”
The first-time hospitality operator also has further expansion plans in the pipeline.
