Gary Usher announces fifth restaurant Pinion to open in Prescot

Restaurateur Gary Usher has revealed plans to open a fifth restaurant in Prescot, Merseyside.

The planned opening, which appears to be in Eccleston Street in the town centre, will be a bistro-style restaurant expected to be named Pinion after Usher launched an Instagram page in the name.

It will join Usher's portfolio of Elite Bistro's which includes Sticky Walnut in Chester, Burnt Truffle in Heswall on the Wirral, Hispi in Didsbury, Greater Manchester, Wreckfish in Liverpool.

Posting on Instagram Usher, who won the 2013 Menu of the Year Catey award, said: "This place will be small but it's an opportunity to really be part of their plan to regenerate the area. There's nothing wrong with it at the minute, it's just quiet and people have stopped using the high street in favour of a big shopping complex a few miles away.

"I'm really really fucking nervous about doing it because it's a business and it will have to make money but I'm also really fucking excited to possibly be part of something that a load of people might be really proud of.

"When I took over the village bistro (now sticky walnut) it felt similar. Not the demographic or local business but it felt similar in terms of opening a small neighbourhood restaurant for the people that lived there."

Speaking to The Caterer in September last year, after the announcement of a fifth site, Usher said his plans were "scatty" but "they often work out to become something."

"I love the fact that no matter what day it is or what time it is, if one of the restaurants call me I can be there within half an hour." He added.

More details are yet to be announced.

Usher also hopes to open another bistro called Kala in Manchester and is "currently in talks" to get the project moving.
