Fred Sirieix's Million Pound Menu continues on BBC Two tonight when restaurant concepts Finca and Wholesome Junkies will battle for investment.
Cuban street-food brand Finca is seeking £150,000 to open in its hometown of Liverpool before rolling out sites nationally.
Finca launched in 2016 and currently operates in Liverpool's Baltic Market. It serves dishes such as the ‘cubano', a sandwich filled with meat, mustard, cheese and pickle; ‘ropa frita', slow-cooked beef brisket, crispy shoestring potato, pickled red onion, roast garlic aïoli and Finca guava barbecue sauce; and warm Cuban donuts with honeycomb and toasted coconut marshmallow in a hot rum chocolate sauce.
It also makes its own marinades, pickles, sauces and syrups.
Wholesome Junkies, a vegan junk-food concept set up only nine months ago by Chelsea Campbell, is hoping to receive £95,000 to open in Manchester. Dishes include a fried cauliflower burger; mac and cheese with wild garlic pesto and a balsamic-roasted garlic crumb as well as a buffalo pulled jackfruit burger with celery slaw, cheese, onion rings, a hash brown and ranch dressing.
Each concept will be given three days to operate in a 40-seat pop-up restaurant in Manchester to win over the public and the potential investors.
They will be judged on their food, service, team management, brand potential and business plans. If successful, they will be offered an investment opportunity from a panel of esteemed hospitality professionals.
Finca will pitch to Lydia Forte of the five-star Rocco Forte Hotels group, Darrel Connell, partner with investment group IMBIBA Partnership, Jeremy Roberts, CEO of Living Ventures and Tim Gee, property director with property development and investment company Allied London.
Wholesome Junkies will be pitching to Chris Miller, founder of restaurant investment company the White Rabbit Fund.
Presented by Fred Sirieix, general manager of Galvin at Windows in London and maître d' on Channel 4's First Dates, the programme will kick off at 9pm.
