Fragrance Group gets green light for two further Torbay developments

The Fragrance Group has got the green light for two new hotel schemes in Torbay, meaning the go-ahead has been given in full for its £100m investment plans in the area.

Torbay Council has given planning approval for the group to demolish the Palace hotel in Torquay, which it bought in 2017, and build a 248-bedroom, five-star hotel in its place (pictured).

Permission has also been granted to redevelop the former Lighthouse bar and nightclub in Paignton into a 115-bedroom hotel, which would be operated by Accor under its Ibis Styles brand.

The Singapore-based property firm won planning permission in October to demolish the Corbyn Head hotel in Torquay and replace it with a new venue with three times the number of bedrooms (152) and a rooftop bar and spa.

It has also demolished the 46-bedroom Park hotel in Paignton and has planning permission to build a three-star, 161-bedroom hotel, which will also be operated by Accor as a Mercure hotel.

Elsewhere, the property company plans to transform Bath's Grade II-listed Royal Mineral Water Hospital into a luxury hotel following refurbishment and owns the St Chads hotel in Blackpool and the Townhouse hotel in Manchester.
