Former Fifteen head chef closes Cornwall restaurant

Chef Andy Appleton first opened Appleton’s with his wife in Padstow in 2016 before moving the restaurant to Fowey in 2020.

Andy and Lynsey Appleton have closed their Cornwall restaurant Appleton’s with “immediate effect” after almost eight years of trading.

The former head chef at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen revealed the pair have a “deep, constant feeling of nausea in the pits of our stomach” as a result of the sudden closure.

In an Instagram post, they clarified all creditors will be contacted in the coming weeks, while all future reservations will be cancelled.

As all staff at the restaurant have been made redundant, Andy has encouraged anyone “looking for some really special individuals” to get in touch with him.

“To all our customers (and so then, friends) that have dined with us and supported us over the years and enjoyed our hospitality or experienced what we do, to anyone that has celebrated something or simply smiled or laughed within our walls, thank you…,” he added.

Andy had been head chef at Fifteen for nine years prior to launching Appleton’s at the Vineyard at Trevibban Mill Vineyard near Padstow in 2016. He then moved the concept to Fowey in March 2020, which offered a bigger space for the restaurant and bar.

The restaurant served Italian cuisine with a contemporary twist, showcasing dishes such as squid ink linguine with Cornish crab, olive oil poached Cornish cod and lemon pepper fried potatoes.
