Former Fife Arms head chef Adam Maddock has been announced as head chef at the soon-to-open wellness-led retreat Saltmoore in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Adam Maddock has been named head chef at the new Saltmoore property in Whitby, North Yorkshire, having left his position as head chef at the Fife Arms in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, earlier this year.
Maddock, who has also worked with Michael Caines at Gidleigh Park in Chagford and at Whatley Manor in Malmesbury under Martin Burge and Niall Keating, will oversee the hotel’s F&B operations across its four culinary offerings, including a brasserie and a wellness café, and three bars.
Maddock told The Caterer: “I’m delighted to be joining Saltmoore at the start of their journey. Guests can expect to see dishes on the menu like crab tart with a caramelised cream and pickled cucumber, as well as fish of the day and a classic North Coast ice cream too."
The wider F&B offering will cater for guests staying at the retreat’s two new hotels, which will hold 72 bedrooms in total. The larger of the two hotels is Saltmoore House with 43-bedrooms, while the Beach House will offer 29-bedrooms.
Saltmoore House will feature a spa, to be known as the Sanctuary, which will offer a variety of facilities including an indoor heated pool, a jacuzzi, and a steam room, as well as six treatment rooms.
Replacing the Raithwaite Sandsend hotel, Saltmoore marks the first hotel project in northern England by property development firms O’Shea Group and Galliard Homes.
The hotel was sold to the developers in April last year off a £12m guide price.
The retreat, which is scheduled to open in September, will be headed up by general manager duo, Peter Boyle and Jayne Cartwright, formerly of luxury South Devon hotel, Gara Rock.
Boyle and Cartwright said they are excited to work with “such a pioneering brand to bring a new level of luxurious, yet laid-back accommodation to North Yorkshire”.
