The awards recognise the brightest and the best talent across the contract catering sector.
Green & Fortune chief executive John Nugent and BaxterStorey’s head of community Andrew Aston were among the winners at the 2024 Foodservice Cateys.
Nominees from across the industry gathered for a black-tie awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London hotel on 11 October.
Nugent was recognised for his stellar career which saw him become chief executive of Searcy’s before launching caterer Green & Fortune 16 years ago. He has also raised thousands of pounds for charities including the London Irish Centre and Hospitality Action and is known across the industry both for his warmth and ability to throw a good party.
Allister Richards, chief operating officer of CH&Co, said: “John embodies what is important and vital about hospitality. Generosity not just of spirit, but of action and investment.
“He has made his excellent business like a club – you are honoured to be invited and, subject to moderately good behaviour, your membership will enrich your professional and personal life.”
Chris Mitchell, chief executive of Genuine Dining, added: “[John is] such an affable, likeable, generous character. When you spend time with him, you come away feeling as though you have made a friend for life. Which is what he is to me.”
Aston won the Extra Mile Award for his pioneering mental health project with the Craft Guild of Chefs, which has had a meaningful impact within the industry.
Former National Chef of the Year winner Nick Smith described Aston as “genuinely caring” and someone who “has helped so many people just by listening”.
BaxterStorey also won the tightly fought Business and Industry Caterer of the Year award and the regional manager of the year award for Lucy Ager.
The Rising Star Award went to Idrees Anwar, who was recognised for his work to improve hospital food standards as lead dietitian at NHS Supply Chain: Food.
The evening’s other winners included Genuine Dining, which triumphed in both the Salesperson of the Year and Event Caterer of the Year categories.
Restaurant Associates won two awards, with Benjamin Campbell winning General Manager of the Year while the wider business received the Best Use of Innovative Technology Award.
Fika Catering, which aims to marry social enterprise with wellness, was named Boutique Caterer of the Year while Sodexo Live! won the Innovation Award for its use of technology to overhaul the catering at Brighton and Hove Albion football stadium.
