Food-focused businesses including the Star Inn, Restaurant James Sommerin, Pentonbridge Inn and Kinloch Lodge have been announced the winners of César awards today in the 2019 Good Hotel Guide.
César awards, named after hotelier César Ritz, are presented to hotels which have demonstrated excellence in their field. This year, the Michelin-starred Restaurant James Sommerin and Star Inn (pictured) at Harome, Yorkshire, won Welsh Restaurant with Rooms of the Year and Inn of the Year, respectively, among 10 César award winners .
Pentonbridge Inn in Cumbria, which until recently was overseen by Marcus Wareing protégés Jake and Cassie White, won newcomer of the year and was described as an "exciting gourmet destination". Kinloch Lodge on the Isle of Skye was awarded luxury hotel of the year.
Co-edited by Adam Raphael and Ian Belcher, the 2019 edition of The Good Hotel Guide features 860 properties in total, the highest number ever.
Raphael and Belcher said: "This year's 2019 César winners have demonstrated excellence at every turn, providing guests with delicious food and warm hospitality. They have also succeeded in getting the all-important basics right, from a comfortable mattress or very good ambient lighting to that vital but often overlooked welcoming atmosphere and smooth service."
Hotels do not pay to be included in the guide, which selects entries on merit alone from reader reports that are monitored by the editorial team.
