First stage of Hawkstone Hall hotel refurbishment to open in summer

The new owners of Hawkstone Hall in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, have announced that the first part of the property's multimillion-pound refurbishment will open in the summer with the unveiling of the main hall and 12 suites.

WH Hospitality, a subsidiary of the Distinctly Hospitable Group, bought the Grade I-listed, Georgian mansion last year after it had laid empty since 2015.

A major refurbishment, headed by designer Kay Petrouis, is now under way to turn the property, according to the owners, into "one of the most opulent hotels and exclusive wedding venues in the UK".

Weddings and other events will be held in the main hall once open. The 12 opulent suites, named after Jane Austen characters, will feature soft hues of duck-egg blue and calamine pinks.

The second stage of the property's transformation, focusing on 28 bedrooms in a 1960s wing, will then continue.

Hawkstone Hall will fully reopen with 40 bedrooms in February 2019.

Distinctly Hospitable Group is headed up by Hannah Whiting as group development director and Martin Hirst, venues director.

Whiting said: "Since completing on Hawkstone Hall we are delighted with the progress we have made in restoring one of only two Grade I-listed buildings in Shropshire.

"The gardens have proven to be a major project over the summer and we have thoroughly enjoyed uncovering some of the lost and hidden features, numerous pathways and a secret garden."

Distinctly Hospitable Group also owns two other properties in Weston, Staffordshire: Weston Hall, a luxury event and wedding venue with a restaurant and eight bedrooms, and the Saracens Head.
