The final set of restaurants to make the shortlist for The Caterer‘s Menu of the Year Catey award 2018, sponsored by Teflon, have been revealed.
The six restaurants featured between November 2017 and May 2018 to be in contention are Brat in London, Pentonbridge Inn in Carlisle, Stark in Kent, the Blackbird in Berkshire, Whatley Manor in Wiltshire and Xu in London.
They join the six other finalists: 108 Garage in London, 64 Degrees in Brighton, Anglo in London, Aster in London, The Cross in Kenilworth and the Latymer restaurant in the Pennyhill Park hotel in Surrey.
The full list of 12 menus will be judged in tomorrow, before a shortlist is revealed and the winner crowned at the Cateys on 3 July 2018.
Restaurants are selected quarterly from all the menus featured on the Menuwatch pages of the Chef section over the previous three months.
The menus are judged on innovation within the price bracket of that particular establishment or contract; good use of seasonal produce on the menu; creativity of the dishes being served; careful marrying of textures and flavours of the component ingredients; value for money; and, seeing the menu or selection of dishes, whether the judges would be tempted to eat there.
Last year, Jun Tanaka's the Ninth in London won the award. His restaurant beat competition from Norn in Edinburgh, Smokestak in London, and Wine & Brine in Moira, County Down.
