Fifteen Cornwall receives funding for refurb

Fifteen Cornwall has received a cash injection of £400,000 to transform its restaurant and kitchen.

The Jamie Oliver-inspired initiative, which is funded by the Cornwall Development Company and the county's Regional Growth Fund, will close in early January for a month-long refurbishment.

The revamp will include upgraded interiors featuring a new antipasti bar as well as a redeveloped kitchen offering an enhanced training space for apprentices. Upon its relaunch the 120-cover restaurant will also offer a new menu devised by head chef Andy Appleton.

Matthew Thomson (pictured), chief executive at Fifteen Cornwall, said: "The restaurant has served breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week every week for six years - over 400,000 meals.

"So it's an absolutely massive step for us to close for three weeks, but we know we'll be opening in February with a stunning new interior and a mouth-watering kitchen that will make the most of our beautiful location and offer new and amazing dining experiences."

Fifteen Cornwall, which launched in January 2006, has seen more than 120 chefs from disadvantaged backgrounds train at the Watergate Bay restaurant.
