Global group MGM Muthu Hotels has expanded its presence in Scotland with the acquisition of the 177-bedroom Erskine Bridge Hotel & Spa.
Overlooking the River Clyde 14 miles west of Glasgow, the hotel has been sold in an off-market deal for an undisclosed sum by Cosmopolitan Hotels. The sale leaves Cosmopolitan with one hotel: the 141-bedroom Normandy hotel in Renfrew.
Following the acquisition, MGM Muthu Hotels now has eight hotels in Scotland and three in England, alongside properties in France, Spain, Portugal, Cuba and India. The company is part of the MGM group founded by Dr MG Muthu in Singapore in 1963.
Erskine Bridge is located within six acres of grounds and features a 200-cover restaurant, function space for up to 500 guests, spa, swimming pool and gym.
Stuart Drysdale, director at Christie & Co, which marketed the hotel, said: “We have had a long-standing relationship with Cosmopolitan Hotels and were asked to conduct a confidential marketing campaign to find a buyer for the hotel.
“MGM Muthu Hotels are expanding their portfolio in Scotland and the purchase allows them to significantly increase their room stock and secure a large hotel with easy access to Glasgow airport, and act as a starting point for overseas visitors exploring the Loch Lomond area and the wider west coast of Scotland.”
