8 reasons to enter the KP of the Year 2024 competition

Don’t miss your chance to celebrate your dedicated kitchen porters (KP) by nominating them for this year’s Kitchen Porter of the Year accolade.

The 2024 competition, organised by The Caterer in partnership with warewasher specialist Winterhalter, is well under way, and with the August entry deadline fast approaching, here are eight essential reasons why you should throw your KP’s hat into the ring.

1. KP of the Year is free to enter

There is absolutely no cost to nominate an employee or kitchen porter friend, so it’s well worth entering KP of the Year 2024.

2. Simple to nominate

Just fill in one online form, answering a few quick questions, and voilà, your entry is complete. We ask that every kitchen porter has someone nominate them, so if you work in back of house and think you can win, ask someone to put you forward.

Have more than one KP in the kitchen who is doing great work? Feel free to nominate as many KPs as you like!

3. Show your KPs some recognition

It’s important to put credit where credit is due, especially to those who don’t always get to step into the spotlight.

KPs’ hard graft can often go unrecognised, so what better way of showing your appreciation than to put them forward to be KP of the Year?

4. The victorious kitchen porter is well rewarded

Not only will the winner receive the KP of the Year 2024 trophy, but the prize package also includes £1,000 in vouchers and a celebratory meal with friends and family in a casual-dining restaurant of the KP’s choice.

5. The winning KP’s kitchen receives a Winterhalter prize

The KP of the Year 2024’s employer will also gain from the victory, as the venue will win a piece of Winterhalter kit worth up to £10,000.

This could be a brand-spanking-new dishwasher, or maybe a glass washer to give your drinkware a new shine.

6. The contest winner enters the hall of fame

The winning KP’s triumph will be immortalised in the KP of the Year website’s hall of fame, gaining them further plaudits.

7. Every entry gets sent a KP of the Year apron

Every KP that is put forward will receive a KP of the Year Oliver Hardy apron from Winterhalter UK.

This means it’s more than just the one person who gets recognition, but every single person whose company wants them to know they’re doing a great job.

8. Highly commended entries receive hospitality vouchers

A KP doesn’t even have to win the contest to gain some swag, as three highly commended KPs will also receive vouchers to spend on hospitality experiences.
