Eight guests were injured in a fire that saw 184 people evacuated from the 99-bedroom Dilkhusa Grand hotel in Ilfracombe, Devon, in the early hours of this morning.
Five of the guests were taken to hospital; four were suffering from smoke inhalation and one with chest pains.
Firefighters from the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service were called to the four-storey hotel at 2.40am following the outbreak of a blaze, which is believed to have been centred in the toilet of a third-floor bedroom. Guests were said to be trapped on the fourth floor of the hotel.
The fire, which caused smoke damage throughout the third and fourth floors, was brought under control after one hour.
The fire service said that all guests were accounted for and an investigation is now underway regarding the cause of the blaze.
The Dilkhusa Grand hotel is part of the Bay Hotels group.
