Edinburgh's Channings and Howard hotels to close

Edinburgh's Channings (pictured) and Howard hotels are set to close and revert to operating as residential properties.

The Edinburgh Collection has decided to sell the properties and hopes to employ as many staff as possible within the group's other properties.

Edinburgh Collection managing director Ricky Kapoor said: "The focus of the Edinburgh Collection is to provide a greater number of affordable hotel bedrooms to visitors to the capital, a strategy which we put in place with the purchase of the Tune hotel which we rebranded as the Haymarket Hub hotel.

"We are actively looking, therefore, to re-invest the money from the sale of the hotels back into the buoyant local tourism market in line with our overall direction."

The 41-bedroom Channings hotel will close at the end of November, while the 18-bedroom Howard hotel will close at the end of December. The hotels were formerly part of the Town House Collection, founded by hotelier Peter Taylor with the openings of the Channings in 1989 as one of Scotland's earliest boutique hotel. Taylor sold the hotels to the Edinburgh Collection in 2011.

Owned by hospitality group Palm Holdings, the Edinburgh Collection's portfolio now stands at three: the Old Waverley hotel, the Holyrood aparthotel, and the Haymarket Hub hotel.
