Doug McMaster's Silo heading for London after successful crowdfund

Chef Doug McMaster's zero waste restaurant concept Silo is heading to London following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Hackney brewery Crate hit its £500,000 target over the weekend and is now at £538,720 towards funding a major refurbishment of the site. Crate is now looking to secure additional funding and hit £750,000 towards a line of canned beer.

Upstairs, the team will develop a new restaurant space for the sustainability-focused Silo, which operates as a restaurant in Brighton, as well as the creation of an experimental brewery, an affordable work space, an extended ground floor bar and an event space. The Silo team will not be renewing the lease of the Brighton restaurant.

Crate was launched in 2012 by siblings Tom and Jess Seaton and friend Neil Hinchley. Based in the White Building, an ex-print factory, Crate began its life as a small microbrewery, bar and pizza restaurant.
