Deliveroo launches Eat In to Help Out to support small restaurants

Deliveroo is to launch Eat In to Help Out for September to encourage more people to use delivery and support their local restaurants.

The food delivery service will cover up to £5 of the bill throughout September for customers who enter a code when ordering from restaurants every Monday to Wednesday.

The scheme, which has been taken up by more than 16,000 local restaurants and has been welcomed by chancellor Rishi Sunak, follows the success of the government’s Eat Out to Help Out campaign, which has run throughout August.

National chains are being given the option to participate, if they fund the discount themselves.

Commenting on the new scheme, chancellor Rishi Sunak said: "This has been an incredibly difficult time for the hospitality sector, both during the lockdown and emerging from it.

"Thousands of restaurants and cafés forced to close during lockdown were thankfully able to continue trading in some way using delivery services such as Deliveroo. For small, independent and local firms this has been a lifeline.

"Our Eat Out to Help Out scheme was designed to help restaurants reopen and protect the two million jobs in this sector, giving it the boost it needed. I hope that people will continue to show their support for this vitally important part of our economy and Deliveroo’s new Eat In to Help Out scheme is another way for them to do so."

Chief executive and founder of Deliveroo Will Shu added: “Our restaurant partners play a vital role in our economy, just as they do people’s everyday lives, bringing people the food they love. We know they have been hit hard recently, and we hope Our Eat IN to Help Out scheme can play a part in helping their businesses through this difficult period.”
