Dalata snaps up site earmarked for Hotel Indigo

It has emerged that the site acquired by Dalata for its Clayton Hotel City of London was originally earmarked to be the Hotel Indigo Aldgate.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced the signing of a 207-bedroom site in Aldgate in 2015 under a franchise agreement with Meadow Partners and Roquebrook, which was anticipated to open in 2017. It was described as being inspired by Victorian textile warehouses and nearby markets.

The IHG website still lists the property, 10 New Drum Street, and advertises it as opening on 14 January 2019. The hotel is also listed on online travel agents such as Expedia and TripAdvisor, however no availability is listed, and its Twitter account has shown no activity since 29 August 2018.

Irish hotel group Dalata announced in August that it had acquired a long leasehold for a 212-bedroom hotel under development in London's Aldgate for £91m.

The Clayton Hotel City of London, also listed at 10 New Drum Street, was expected to open at the end of 2018, now advertised as opening January 2019. It is set to be the third London hotel in the group, joining Clayton hotels in Chiswick and Cricklewood.

The 300-year leasehold for the development was taken on by Dalata after it bought the entire issued share capital of Hintergard from Aldgate Hotel Holdco.

Dalata declined to comment. The Caterer has contacted InterContinental Hotels Group, Meadow Partners and Roquebrook for comment.
