Craig Johnston promoted to head chef at Marcus at the Berkeley

Craig Johnston, the 2017 winner of MasterChef: The Professionals, has been promoted to head chef at Marcus restaurant within the Berkeley hotel in London.

Johnston joined the Michelin-starred restaurant in April 2018 as senior chef de partie after impressing judge Marcus Wareing on the BBC show, and worked his way up the ranks to junior sous and sous chef.

He was the youngest ever winner of MasterChef: The Professionals at the age of 22, and is taking up the head chef role at just 26 years' old.

In his new role, he will continue to work alongside Wareing and chef patrons Mark and Shauna Froydenlund.

Wareing said: “Craig’s talent as a chef has shone through from the day I met him on MasterChef. Through determination and hard work, he has grown into a strong individual and a natural leader in the kitchen. Having given himself the time to develop and learn, I’m incredibly confident he’s ready for this next step.

“He is deserving of this and every accolade and I can’t wait to see how he elevates the Marcus kitchen even further in this new position.”
