Classic Lodges hotel group has submitted an application to build a holiday lodge park within its Grinkle Park Estate, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, following two years of planning and consultation with local authorities.
The £5m, 60-lodge development would see the restoration of the hotel's Grade II-listed stable block, the re-introduction of a caravan site, and the formation of two new lakes to complement the existing water feature. Once fully operational, the lodge park would create 25 jobs.
The development of environmentally considerate lodges looks to cater to the growing family ‘staycation' market, with accommodation ranging from one- to six-bedroom lodges, with many including a hot tub.
Richard Grime, managing director of Classic Lodges, said: "Grinkle Park is a four-star country house hotel employing up to 75 local people across the estate. It is also one of the county's pre-eminent wedding venues with fabulous gardens, so the development would enhance and extend what is already a premium offering."
Mike Hodgson, chair of Loftus Town Council, added: "We look forward to formally reviewing and commenting on this proposal."
Classic Lodges has a portfolio of 10 hotels including Solberge Hall, Northallerton, North Yorkshire; the Old Swan, Harrogate, North Yorkshire; Grovefield House, near Windsor, Berkshire; and Charingworth Manor, Chipping, Campden, Gloucestershire, as well as five partner hotels.
