The lunch prepared by chef-patron of Turnips, Tomas Lidakevicius, will be a celebration of quality produce in a unique and vibrant market setting.
Formerly the executive chef of Jason Atherton’s City Social, Lidakevicius has designed a vegan tasting experience for The Caterer’s first lunch event of 2022, taking place on 2 February. All dishes will showcase the exquisite fruit and vegetables sourced by Turnips for its produce concession.
Stallholders for over 30 years, Turnips’ ethos is dedicated to finding producers who deliver on flavour. Lidakevicius will work with these outstanding ingredients to create a special menu for The Caterer readers.
Guests should arrive at the restaurant for noon, before sitting down to a five-course menu of favourites from Turnips, accompanied by four wines, hosted by Lidakevicius and his team.
Creative dishes will include Agria potato, celeriac, winter truffle and braised golden turnip, maitake, yeast.
The Chef Eats Out event, organised by The Caterer in partnership with Rich Products, is restricted to 60 diners, who will have the chance to sample Lidakevicius’ fantastic food among their peers.
Lidakevicius said: “The entire Turnips team are looking forward to welcoming The Caterer’s readers to our restaurant at Borough Market, not only to demonstrate the versatility of our ingredients but to share our passion for all things fruit and vegetable. It’s exciting to be working with these incredible products and to be in an environment that inspires mine and the team's creativity.”

Rich Products (Rich’s) is one of the world’s largest family-owned food companies and a leading supplier to the foodservice, in-store bakery, retail and industrial marketplaces.
Rich’s created the first dairy-free cream alternative over 75 years ago and last year introduced two new variations designed to help food and beverage developers meet the rapidly growing dairy-free demands of UK consumers. The plant-based creams are 100% vegan and allergen-free, ensuring they can be used in a huge range of recipes.
The plant-based Cooking Crème is an all-in-one solution for sweet and savoury hot applications, whilst the Whipping Crème offers a variety of ways to add value to desserts, cakes and beverages. The plant-based cream alternatives perform and taste just like dairy with no bean, grain or nut back-notes, with the Cooking Crème also suitable for use as a vegan milk replacement in desserts and hot drinks.
Rich’s Vegan Overview
There’s been huge growth in flexitarian diets in recent years to the extent that plant-based vegan has gone beyond being just a trend – it’s a key marker within the UK’s food and drink landscape.
Although total commitment to a certain diet is on the rise, this flexing between diets is a major trend we have seen and is fuelling the categories growth. With 94% of people participating in Veganuary saying they also intend to cut back on eating meat and dairy, it’s important to have plant-based vegan and free-from options on the menu, to cater for both strict vegans or those just flexing into the plant-based category.
More people signed up to Veganuary 2021 than ever and this was a catalyst for trying alternatives: mainly plant milks, meat & poultry alternatives, and vegan cheese.
