Chartwells to refund inadequate free school lunch parcels

Chartwells, Compass Group’s education arm, has said it will refund the costs of free school lunch food parcels that “have not met our usual high standards”.

A mother posted a photo on Twitter of her free school meals bag to feed one child for 10 days two days ago, which was widely criticised, with footballer and child hunger campaigner Marcus Rashford describing it as "unacceptable".

Having fully investigated the free school lunch food parcel provision, Chartwells said it will be contacting every school to understand where any shortages may have occurred and will apologise to anyone affected.

From Monday, it said it will ensure the food hampers reflect the additional £3.50 funding allocation by the government and that every penny will go into the provision of the food.
