Cateys 2022: Jeremy King, Robin Sheppard and Lisa Goodwin-Allen win top gongs

Celebrated restaurateur Jeremy King and accessibility champion and hotelier Robin Sheppard took the top accolades at the 2022 Cateys.

King was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, at a stunning ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, attended by the cream of hospitality.

He was recognised for a career spent creating some of the capital’s most lauded restaurants, including the Wolseley, the Delaunay and Brasserie Zédel, alongside long-term business partner Chris Corbin.

The Special Award went to Robin Sheppard who, as well as being a hugely successful hotelier heading up Bespoke hotels, has done more than anyone else of his generation to drive forward the accessibility agenda, ensuring incredible hospitality is open to all.

Caterer Thomas Franks was recognised with two awards, taking both the Best Employer award and the Foodservice Caterer award.

The Chef Award went to Lisa Goodwin-Allen of Northcote in Langho, Lancashire, who has not only dazzled diners but also shown business acumen, fantastic leadership and become an ambassador for the wider industry.

Hélène Darroze, one of the most successful female chefs of all time and the holder of six Michelin stars across four restaurants in two countries, received the International Award.

Chefs and restaurateurs taking home a Catey statue include Mitch Tonks, who won the Restaurateur of the Year – Group award; Andreas Antona, who was named Restaurateur of the Year – Independent as well as Will Murray, James Robson and Jack Croft of Fallow in London’s St James’s, who won Newcomer of the Year.

Hotel of the Year – Group went to the Grand in York, while the Independent award was won by the Grove of Narberth in Pembrokeshire. The Best Use of Technology went to Mollie's Motel & Diner and Marsham Court hotel, Bournemouth, was recognised for its accessibility credentials.

Editor of The Caterer James Stagg said: “It has been striking to witness just how imaginative hospitality businesses have been in delivering exceptional guest experiences over the last 12 months, despite battling incredibly challenging trading conditions and a full-blown staffing crisis.

“This year’s Catey winners have demonstrated that despite such operational challenges, the industry continues to innovate and create opportunities to impress.

“They define what’s so special about hospitality. Delivering exceptional experiences time after time and maintaining the highest standards of business performance. Congratulations to all our winners.”
