Caravan team to launch new concept at Duke of York Square

Caravan Restaurants will launch a new concept this autumn when the group takes on the newly built restaurant building on Duke of York Square.

The restaurant will be housed within the new three-storey stone and glass pavilion in London's Chelsea, a circular building with retractable glazing alongside the Saatchi Gallery.

Vardo, named after the Romani travelling wagon of the 1800s, is based on the notion of ‘no boundaries', and will offer a menu of ‘back to basics' food, ‘low and slow' cooking techniques, global influences and UK ingredients.

The all-day menu will include dishes such as: slow-braised carrots, brined mustard greens, aji blanco; charred aubergine, saffron buttermilk dressing, grilled Turkish chilli; baharat-rubbed lamb cutlets, green harissa, tahini; and green baked eggs with lentil, pine nut and kale ragù, cumin yogurt, charred pepper salsa.

Founded by Laura Harper-Hinton with her husband Chris Ammermann and friend Miles Kirby, Caravan restaurant, bar and coffee roastery first opened on Exmouth Market in 2010, offering an Antipodean, ‘well-travelled' all-day dining and coffee culture.

The site was followed by outlets at Granary Square development in King's Cross in August 2012; a Bankside site in 2016; a fourth site in 2017 within the Bloomberg Arcade in the City of London; and Caravan Fitzrovia opened in August 2018 in the former BBC Radio 1 recording studio.
