The Toronto-based chain previously closed a handful of UK cafés in London and Cardiff.

Canadian coffee chain Second Cup is seeking a master franchise partner to reignite its plans to expand in the UK.

The Toronto-founded chain, which operates over 180 cafés in 22 regions, opened its first UK café in Manchester in 2014.

It grew to a handful of sites with openings in London and Cardiff, but now operates just two locations in Swindon and Birmingham.

Second Cup said it was open to receiving proposals to become a master franchisee with exclusive rights to develop and operate Second Cup coffee houses across the UK.

Jim Ragas, president and chief executive of Second Cup Coffee Company, said: "The UK has a vibrant café culture, and we believe that Second Cup’s distinctive offerings and inviting atmosphere will resonate with café lovers across the country.

"We look forward to partnering with passionate individuals or organisations who share our commitment to excellence and are eager to bring the Second Cup experience to the UK market."

Second Cup offers a range of hot and cold teas and coffees, frozen yoghurts and shakes and cold-pressed juices.

Interested parties are invited to submit their proposals outlining their experience, vision, and business plan to the Second Cup Coffee Company by emailing info@mysecondcup.com.
