Calum Franklin to oversee evening menu at Harrods’ Georgian restaurant

The 120-year-old restaurant will reopen next month with a new menu and interiors.

The Georgian restaurant at London’s Harrods is to relaunch next month with chef Calum Franklin overseeing the evening offer.

Its menu will celebrate “British ingredients and classic cooking” and feature the signature pies that Franklin became known for at London’s Holborn Dining Room.

These will include ‘the Georgian Pie Experience’ to share, as well as classics such as beef and shin, chicken penny, and Beef Wellington.

A wider evening menu will celebrate the Georgian’s 113-year history with recipes from the Harrods archive, including pâté en croûte 1960 with Cumberland sauce, and Cornish crab tart.

It marks a return to London for Franklin, who stepped down from Holborn Dining Room in 2022 to focus on other projects. He launched the British brasserie Public House in Paris earlier this year.

The Georgian, which first opened in 1911 on the fourth floor of Harrods, has undergone a major refurbishment and will reopen on 4 November.

The restaurant will seat 164 covers and feature an outdoor terrace. The dining room will feature 25 chandeliers, and the refurbishment has preserved many of the original Art Deco features.

During the day the Georgian will serve afternoon tea created by the in-house pâtisserie team led by executive pastry chef Markus Bohr. This will include new spins on classics such as the confit duck sandwich with orange marmalade on tomato bread; and pistachio, pear and cinnamon sablé Bréton.

A central piano will be played during the tea service while the evening entertainment will be inspired by the 1920s jazz age.

Ashley Saxton, director of restaurants and kitchens at Harrods, said: “While every dining space within Harrods has a rich history, few embody this more than the Georgian, which has been at the heart of high society dining since the Edwardian era.

“Our challenge and opportunity as the custodians of this historic restaurant are to restore its vibrancy and secure its future for the next century.

“By providing a world-class proposition through partners like Calum Franklin, we aim to blend the Georgian’s iconic charm with modern excellence and reaffirm its place as one of London’s most important dining destinations.

Under Franklin, Holborn Dining Room won Hotel Restaurant Team of the Year at the 2018 Hotel Cateys. The following year, Franklin himself won Hotel Restaurant Chef of the Year.
