Butcombe Brewery reopens the Methuen Arms in Corsham with new look

The 14-bedroom Methuen Arms hotel and pub in Corsham, Wiltshire, has unveiled its new look following an extensive renovation undertaken by Butcombe Brewery.

Located adjacent to the stately home of Corsham Court, the Georgian property was acquired by Butcombe Brewery, which is part of the Channel Island-based pub business the Liberation Group, in November 2016.

The six-week project included a seven day closure while the bar and kitchen were completed.

The refurbishment was undertaken by hospitality design specialists Concorde BGW and features a new lounge for hotel guests and scullery room for private events. Exposed stone walls, beams and parquet flooring have been renovated to celebrate the Methuen Arms' previous history as a coaching inn.

The menu at the Methuen Arms is overseen by head chef Leigh Evans, who previously worked in Bath at Combe Grove Manor and the Royal Crescent hotel. Dishes in the restaurant include a starter of seared scallops with crispy ham hock, black treacle, lime, cauliflower, Granny Smith apple and spices (£12) and a main course of lamb short rib and seared rump with raw radicchio, peas, broad bean, mint and pomme anna (£22).

Meanwhile, classic dishes are served in the pub, such as Butcombe battered haddock with hand cut chips (£13.50), truffled macaroni cheese (£11) and a selection of 28-day dry aged steaks cooked in a Big Green Egg ceramic BBQ.

Future plans for the Methuen Arms include the transformation of former stables into five additional bedrooms and an old barn into a private event space.

Founded in 1978, Butcombe Brewery, which was acquired by the Liberation Group in 2014, today has 27 managed pubs in the West Country and the Cotswolds.
