Butcombe Brewery opens its first Dorset hotel

Bristol-based pub firm Butcombe Brewery has opened its first boutique hotel in Dorset.

The Castle Inn is a newly refurbished pub with rooms in West Lulworth, which features 12 individually designed bedrooms and an all-day dining restaurant.

Butcombe Brewery acquired the pub in autumn last year and it has been redesigned by Concorde BGW, which also led the refurbishment of the Methuen Arms in Corsham near Bath last year.

The rooms start from £75 per night on a bed and breakfast basis for a "cosy double", with family rooms costing from £115 per night.

Each room has been named after a Jurassic Coast landmark (including Durdle Door, Bat's Cave and St Oswald's Bay) and mixes the modern with the traditional, including bold fabric headboards, stripped brick walls, modern artwork and wooden panelling.

Meanwhile, the restaurant is headed up by chef Ashley Walcott, who has previously worked at the Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, under Heston Blumenthal.

The restaurant promises "creative twists on pub classics" including Dorset crab cakes with seaweed ketchup and 12oz pork chops with black pudding mash.

Butcombe Brewery runs more than 40 managed and tenanted pubs in the West Country, and is owned by Liberation Group, based in the Channel Islands.
