Burger King to launch a further 200 UK restaurants by 2026

Burger King UK has announced that it is due to open a further 200 restaurants by 2026 .

It comes after the company agreed to acquire 12 new restaurants from existing franchise partners in January.

The fast-food chain reported that total revenue was up 68% to £211.7m in 2021, compared to £118.8m in 2019, marking its recovery from Covid.

Last year also saw the addition of 48 new owned restaurants to its portfolio through the opening of 19 restaurants and the acquisition of 29 sub-franchised restaurants, including the flagship store in Leicester Square, which served a 100% meat-free menu for a limited time.

With 172 direct-owned Burger King UK restaurants in total, the company intends to continue its growth, placing particular emphasis on digital investment, home delivery services – which account for 25% of total sales – and its commitment to a 50% meat-free menu by 2030.

Burger King UK also revealed that the company is on track to achieve 100% independently certified sustainable sourcing across all commodities by 2030.

Alasdair Murdoch, CEO of Burger King UK, said: “Today, Burger King is the third most recognised Quick Service Restaurant brand in the UK, and we continue to innovate across our menu and customer offering to respond to changing tastes and cater to all occasions and preferences.

“We have a strong development pipeline to further grow our UK footprint, and we are very well positioned to take advantage of the clear market opportunities ahead of us. I would like to thank all of our employees for their ongoing dedication and hard work, without which our ongoing growth would not be possible.”

Burger King was founded in 1953 and now runs 18,600 restaurants in over 100 countries.

It first entered the UK market in 1976.
