Briar and Row on 5 among January Michelin Guide additions

The restaurants are listed alongside Nick Beardshaw’s Starling in Surrey and Santiago Lastra’s Fonda in London.

Briar in Bruton and Row on 5 in London are among 32 new restaurants that have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland’s listings this month.

This is the last selection to be announced ahead of the Michelin Guide Ceremony 2025, which is being held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow on 10 February.

Sam Lomas, the former head chef at Glebe House in Devon, launched Briar at the Number One Bruton hotel as his first solo restaurant in September last year. Michelin praised Briar for its “bright, fresh cooking that can’t help but put a smile on your face”.

Meanwhile, two of Jason Atherton’s new London restaurants, Three Darlings in Chelsea and Row on 5 on Savile Row, have also been added to the list. In its listing for Row on 5, where chef Spencer Metzger leads the kitchen, Michelin said: “There is a great deal of refinement in every inch of this mightily impressive restaurant”.

Outside of London, chef Nick Beardshaw’s solo restaurant Starling in Esher and Scoop group’s Margo in Glasgow, which is sister restaurant to Ox and Finch and Ka Pao, also caught Michelin’s eye, as did the Great Bustard village pub in Great Durnford.

Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.

It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the formal Michelin Guide ceremony.
