People 1st chief executive Brian Wisdom has been appointed chair of the Federation for Industry Sector Skills and Standards.
The federation, formerly known as the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils, has taken responsibility for certification and quality assurance of apprenticeships. As such it strives to promote the employee training and development.
Wisdom said that significant plans were in place for the future of Sector Skills Councils.
He added: "I am absolutely thrilled to take a leading role in supporting the development of employer leadership in resolving the skills gaps and shortages that hamper economic recovery.
"The fact that I am taking the helm at a time when we're also revitalising our name and rebuilding a powerful board of directors ushers in a new age for both the federation and the organisations we represent."
Wisdom is the second senior appointment at the Federation for Industry Sector Skills and Standards this year, after former chief executive of Sussex Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Mark Froud took on the role of managing director.
