Shipping container concept Boxpark has announced that it will open its first site under its sister brand Boxhall in London in summer 2023.
Boxhall City will be an all-day dining venue offering food, drink and music in the historic, 110-year-old Metropolitan Arcade building, which was formerly the entrance to Liverpool Street Station.
As a sister brand to Boxpark, all the leisure facilities in Boxhall are developed in existing buildings that are imbued with sense of cultural heritage, instead of being housed in Boxpark’s matte-black shipping containers.
Boxpark has signed a 15-year lease with Transport for London (TfL), the freeholders of the new site, and is proposing to construct 16 kitchen units and two internal bars, subject to planning permission.
The 17,000 square foot space has a ground floor and small mezzanine with the capacity to seat 266 guests.
The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming launch of Boxhall Bristol in June 2022, with the locations of further Boxhall sites due to be announced this year.
It was revealed in September 2021 that Boxpark had secured new investment from mid-market private equity firm LDC, which has enabled the retail and leisure group to pursue its growth ambitions.
Roger Wade, founder and CEO of Boxpark said: “We are delighted to sign this new Boxhall site with TfL in the heart of the City, where Boxpark was born 10 years ago.
"We are excited to repurpose the building and make it home to a premium food, beer and music Hall – Boxhall, whilst retaining its character and feel.”
